フィルムカウンターを直す（DIY Film Counter Fix）

初代C35ですが、フィルム室の蓋を開けてもカウンターが元に戻らない不具合が残っていました。

そこでカメラを分解しカウンターの不具合を解消することにしました。

分解するまでは仕組みなんか分からないのでドキドキしましたが、構造は至って簡単でした。さすが機械式。メンテナンスがし易いし楽しい😊

写真で言うとカウンターユニットの下部、ちょっと錆びてるっぽい黒茶色？のパーツが蓋をすると押し込まれ、蓋を開けると戻ると言う仕組みのようです。

数字が書いてある円盤の下にギザ10みたいなギザギザがあり、そのそばにある鍵状のパーツが回転のストッパーの役割をしているようです。

先ほどの黒茶色のパーツが押し込まれると連動して鍵状パーツがギザギザにかかり巻き上げレバーを巻き上げてカウンター板が進んだ時に鍵が引っかかって逆に円盤が回るのを防ぐようです。円盤には細い針金が巻き付けてあり、フィルム室の蓋を開けで黒茶色のパーツの押し込みが開放されれば鍵状パーツもギザギザから離れ、巻き上がっていた針金の反動でカウンターが元に戻る、と言う仕組みのようです。合ってるかな？伝わったかな？

で今回の不具合の原因は黒茶色のパーツの可動部が固着により動きづらくなっていたのでパーツクリーナーを吹いて注油することで解消しました。

しかし今度は戻りが弱く、カウンターが36→30までしか戻らず、針金による反動の力が弱いのかなと思い、巻き付けを強くしましたら見事機能が復活です。

これが正しいやり方なのか、正直分かりませんが、カウンターとして機能はしているようなのでしばらくはこれで様子見です😊

Even though I got my first-generation C35 working, there was still one annoying problem: the film counter wouldn't reset when I opened the back door.

So, I decided it was time to take the camera apart and finally fix that stubborn counter issue.

I was really nervous about taking it apart because I had no idea how it worked. But once I got inside, the mechanism was surprisingly simple. That’s classic mechanical design for you—easy and fun to maintain! 😊

Looking at the photo, the part below the counter unit—the slightly rusty, black/brown piece—seems to be the key. When you close the back, it gets pushed in, and when you open the back, it springs out.

Underneath the numbered dial, there’s a serrated gear (kind of like a jagged coin), and a claw-shaped piece next to it acts as a stopper for rotation.

When that black/brown piece is pushed in, it simultaneously engages the claw-shaped stopper with the serrated gear. This prevents the disc from spinning backwards when you wind the film and advance the counter.

The disc also has a thin wire coiled around it. When the back door is opened, the black/brown piece is released, the claw disengages from the gear, and the spring tension of that coiled wire snaps the counter back to its starting position. I hope that makes sense!

So, what was causing the problem? The moving parts of that black/brown component had become stiff and sticky due to seizing. I managed to fix it by spraying some parts cleaner and adding a bit of oil.

However, after that, the counter's return action was weak—it only went from 36 back to 30. I figured the recoil force from the wire was too weak, so I tightened the winding slightly, and voilà! The function is completely restored.

Honestly, I'm not sure if this is the 'correct' way to fix it, but hey, the counter works perfectly now, so I’m going to stick with it for a while and see how it goes. I can't wait to go shooting now! 📸
