D200+Ai NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4S
Greetings from Tokyo this Golden Week! 😁
This year’s Golden Week spans from Wednesday, April 29th, to the following Wednesday. However, my wife hasn't been feeling well since the start of the holiday, so we’ve been staying quiet at home.
Since our son started high school this spring, she began a new routine of waking up early every morning to prepare his lunch box.
Perhaps the exhaustion of that daily rhythm has finally caught up with her.I hope she can use this break to recover as much as possible… and that means it's my turn to step up and take care of things.
In the midst of this, I managed to find a little time for a quick "photo-walk" around the neighborhood.
For the past three months, this has been my go-to setup: the D200 paired with the Ai NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4S.
Lately, my mindset while shooting has evolved: when facing colorful subjects like flowers, I use positive exposure compensation. When aiming for the heavy, dignified presence of structures, I go into the negative.
This is specifically how I think when shooting with the D200.Until about a year ago, I used to leave everything on Auto WB and zero exposure compensation.
But especially since the turn of this year, I’ve started visualizing the final image before pressing the shutter.
Now, I proactively adjust the WB and the exposure compensation as described.
First, the flowers. I add light to these colorful blooms.
The exposure compensation is usually between +0.7 and +1.0.
For structures, it’s all about subtracting light.I keep the compensation between -0.7 and 0.With this approach, I’ve completely moved away from RAW processing. The D200 is a digital camera, of course, but I suppose my shooting style has become quite "film-like."
