I arrived in Tokyo to cast my vote, and the weather forecast was spot on—it started snowing. And I mean really snowing! 😆
In Tokyo’s 23 wards, we might see a few flakes now and then, but it rarely actually piles up. Especially in the eastern part of the city, it’s almost unheard of!
That’s why this snowfall turned Tokyo into a total "extraordinary" wonderland. Every corner I turned was a photo op just waiting to happen. 😏
From Saturday afternoon, and especially Sunday morning after the snow settled, I was on a total high ⤴︎⤴︎. I ended up going on two separate photo walks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon! 🤭
The only catch? The snow kept falling, so I had to shoot while juggling an umbrella. 💦
If I were using my usual D200 setup, I wouldn’t have worried at all. But of course, this time I happened to bring along my old Nikkors—manual focus lenses.
In the middle of the falling snow, I was constantly trying to keep the camera and lens from getting wet, gently setting my umbrella aside, and then dialing in the focus for every shot.
That process of focusing manually for every single frame really forces you to concentrate on each shot. It’s exhausting, to be honest 😓, but I had so much fun.
I think I might stick with this D200 + Old Nikkor style for a while. Taking things slow and steady seems to suit me after all.
